The Interior Designers Association Adelaide, South Australia (IDASA) is a dynamic collective of members who specialise in residential and commercial interior decoration and/or design services.

Members have acquired interior decoration and/or design competencies through formal studies (TAFE and UniSA) and have displayed a passion and genuine desire to provide clients with a professional solution for renovations and/or new construction, heritage through to contemporary styles. Collectively the association offers in excess of 180 years of hands-on experience.

The genesis of the Interior Designer Association in 1992 was prompted by the fact that many designers were working privately and as a consequence in isolation. Design by its very nature can often be enhanced by a collaborative approach and thus working alone, even for the most gifted designer, can be challenging and difficult at times.

A number of designers recognised that a forum which allowed for the sharing of ideas, market trends, new products and concepts, suppliers and manufacturers and indeed problems would be of enormous benefit to not only the designers themselves but also by extension to their clients.

Thus the IDASA came into existence. Its philosophy was based on the writings of Richard Saul Wurman in his text ‘Tedology’, where he proposed that Technology, Entertainment and Design can come together to promote the exchange of ideas and concepts leading to creative learning through communication in the form of discussion.

Founded by Gerry Owen with co-founder Susan Dodd, IDA has proved to be a great success, servicing South Australia for over twenty years. Its members are truly talented and innovative designers and decorators who will be able to consult with you … whether it be a complete makeover or a refurbishment or maybe just new ideas.

Members have generally gained their knowledge and expertise from working within the industry prior to establishing their own businesses. Their know-how includes the creative use of colour, texture, finishes, fabric and furniture to create spaces to the client’s brief as well as achieving their expectations.

Each member has developed a niche market and this can be seen from examples of their work on this website. Members can be contacted via the email link on the “Members” page.
